two slices from two boots

i used to live near the bleecker st. two boots and work above the rockefeller center one, so this isn’t so much a review as a reunion.

two boots makes a damn fine slice of pizza.  if you’re adverse to unexpected flavors, you need to tread lightly on their menu - their crust, their sauce and some of their toppings are not the familiar ones you may be expecting.

first-time visitors should sample the plain (cheese) slice, the mel cooley (pesto, roasted peppers, white pie) and the cleopatra jones (roasted peppers, crumbled sausage and red onions).

if you like what you’ve had - and you probably will - then venture further into the more unusual corners of their menu, like the bayou beast (shrimp, crawfish, andouille sausage).

two boots isn’t my favorite pizza in new york, but it’s a reliably tasty slice with a texture and toppings you won’t find anywhere else.  i’m thrilled that they’ve come west, which automatically catapults them in my list of top 5 la slice joints.*

10 word review: not too far to drive for a taste of home

*vito’s for sure, joe’s of bleecker if i’m already in santa monica…and i’m having trouble thinking of two more worth mentioning. garage, maybe, or mulberry st in beverly hills. village pizza is overrated and verrazaano’s is dead to me.
